But the real confirmation came this week when Samsung, in an official update about One UI 8.5 (the software powering the new S26 phones), included a screenshot. This image prominently features a Privacy Display mode within the settings menu, leaving little doubt about its impending debut.
Adding to the buzz, mobile tech insiders have also uncovered references to Privacy Display embedded within the code of early One UI 8.5 versions. It seems this feature is well and truly on its way!
But here's where it gets really interesting...
Think of Privacy Display as a built-in digital privacy screen protector. Its primary function is to make your phone's screen visible only to you, effectively blocking others from seeing what you're doing when they glance over your shoulder. This native capability on the Galaxy S26 is a significant step, and currently, iPhones don't offer anything quite like it.

The animation first discovered by Sammy Guru has also been making waves across platforms like X and Reddit. Its description is simple yet powerful: "Prevent others from seeing what's on your screen." It further explains that Privacy Display makes the screen less visible when viewed from a side angle, giving you the option to activate it whenever needed or even set it to turn on automatically under specific conditions.
And this is the part most people miss... Is Samsung taking inspiration from Apple's design?
With the next Galaxy Unpacked event rumored for late February, we're seeing a flurry of pre-launch leaks, many of which are confirming long-speculated features like Privacy Display. The rumor mill has also been churning with suggestions that One UI 8.5, and by extension the entire S26 lineup, will embrace a design aesthetic reminiscent of Apple's Liquid Glass.
Liquid Glass is Apple's newer design language, first introduced with iOS 26. It's characterized by translucent elements, enhanced customization options, and animations that artfully bend and refract light. So far, iOS 26 and Liquid Glass have sparked quite a bit of debate, with some design enthusiasts finding the new look a bit jarring. Nevertheless, it appears Samsung is preparing to follow a similar path.
We've already seen One UI 8 incorporate some translucent elements, and a recent preview of One UI 8.5 shared on Samsung's Good Lock website showcases even more Liquid Glass-inspired features. The widgets screen, in particular, bears a striking resemblance to the widgets screen found in iOS 26.
