State Champions Crowned in Girls Swimming & Diving: A Celebration of Excellence

The 52nd Annual IHSAA Girls Swimming & Diving State Finals took place at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, leaving a trail of excitement and achievement in its wake. The event, held on February 13-14, 2026, showcased the talent and determination of young athletes from across the state.
A Champion's Journey: Catie Brenneman's Story
Among the standout performers, Catie Brenneman of Concord High School emerged as a true champion, both in the pool and in the classroom. Brenneman, a senior, was named the recipient of the Mental Attitude Award by the IHSAA Executive Committee, recognizing her exceptional performance and character.
Catie's academic achievements are impressive. She ranks fourth in her senior class and is a member of the National Honors Society. Her swimming prowess is equally remarkable, having been named a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American for the past three years. She is a four-year All-Conference selection in the Northern Lakes Conference, qualifying for state all four years of high school and earning medals every year.
This year, Brenneman qualified in the 100 and 200 freestyle events and was a member of Concord's 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Her achievements include breaking Olympian Lindsay Benko's sectional record in the 200 free and holding school records in the 200 free, 500 free, and 200 IM. Outside of school, she is a dedicated 10-year 4-H club member and a volunteer with the Concord Swim Club and Concord Junior High Swim Team, where she assists with younger members and the annual Elkhart County Fair.
Catie's success extends beyond the pool. She will attend the University of Notre Dame, where she plans to major in marketing and compete for the Fighting Irish swimming team. She becomes the second girls swimmer from Concord to earn this award, following in the footsteps of her sister, Grace Brenneman, who received the honor in 2022.
State Champions Unveiled
The state champions were announced, with Carmel claiming the top spot for the 40th consecutive team championship, followed by Fishers and Carroll (Fort Wayne) with 227 points each. The top 10 teams included Carmel, Fishers, Carroll (Fort Wayne), Zionsville, Penn, Hamilton Southeastern, Chesterton, Valparaiso, Center Grove, and Munster.
The individual events saw Carmel's Leah Debosch, Molly Sweeney, and Ellie Clarke, along with Fishers' Emily Wolf, take home gold medals. Carmel also dominated the 200 Medley Relay, while Carroll (Fort Wayne) claimed the 200 Freestyle Relay title for the first time.
