Ready to experience a whole new level of smartwatch convenience? Google is shaking things up with a fresh software update for the Pixel Watch 4, introducing exciting new gesture controls and AI-powered smart replies! This update isn't just about bells and whistles; it's about making your interactions with your smartwatch smoother and more intuitive than ever before.
The update, arriving as part of the December 2025 rollout, is based on Wear OS 6.1. Availability will vary, depending on your device and location, so keep an eye out!
So, what's new with Google Pixel Watch 4 gestures?
Get ready to ditch the constant screen tapping! Google is expanding gesture-based controls with two new one-handed gestures: Double pinch and Wrist turn. These clever additions let you interact with your watch without even touching the display.
- Double pinch: Imagine quickly scrolling through notifications, dismissing alerts, snoozing alarms, managing timers, pausing or resuming music, sending the first suggested Smart Reply, and even triggering actions like taking a photo, all with a simple tap of your index finger and thumb! Google also promises support for answering and ending phone calls using the same gesture is coming soon. On-screen hints will appear when Double pinch is available, making it super easy to learn.
- Wrist turn: Need to silence an incoming call or dismiss a notification discreetly? Simply turn your wrist away and back. Easy peasy! Both gestures are enabled by default once the update is installed.
To help you master these new gestures, Google is also adding an on-watch Raise to Talk tutorial.
But here's where it gets controversial...
Google is also enhancing the Smart Replies feature with a new, on-device, Gemma-based AI model. This means faster and more efficient smart replies right on your wrist! The new model is around twice as fast as the previous generation and nearly three times more memory-efficient. This feature is also expanding to the Pixel Watch 3 models.
